Anita Owegie, Programs and Learning Manager

Anita is an artist and educator whose work bridges creativity, culture, and community. A recent graduate of North Park University with a BA in Art and a concentration in Art Education, she approaches teaching as both an act of care and a catalyst for empowerment. Her practice is rooted in the belief that art can shape how young people see themselves and the world around them—inviting confidence, curiosity, and pride in every brushstroke and stitch.

Born and raised in Edo City, Benin, Nigeria, Anita’s artistic practice is grounded in her heritage and shaped by her love for materials, texture, and storytelling. Working primarily in fiber and fashion construction, she explores how art can carry identity—how pattern, color, and craftsmanship can hold memory and meaning. Her artmaking and teaching both center care, belonging, and cultural pride. As Programs and Learning Manager at The Children’s Gallery Chicago, Anita leads with curiosity and compassion, overseeing the design and delivery of youth art programs across the city. Her work focuses on creating spaces where children can explore their imaginations freely, see themselves reflected in their mentors, and discover confidence through creative play.

Beyond the classroom, Anita is known for her warmth and artistry—from braiding hair as a form of personal expression to designing garments that merge tradition with contemporary flair. She brings this same spirit of creativity and connection to everything she touches, ensuring that every program she leads is both joyful and transformative.
