The Children’s Gallery Chicago is preparing to launch its inaugural programs, and with that comes the opportunity to grow our founding team.

We are artists, educators, organizers, and visionaries who believe that youth deserve beautiful spaces to learn, create, and thrive. As we prepare to expand programming this fall, we are seeking passionate, community-driven individuals to help bring our mission to life. We expect to begin hiring for key positions in September 2025, with postings shared here and on our social media.

Check back soon, and be part of something powerful.

*Please note: To ensure a safe and welcoming environment for all young people, volunteers who work directly with youth may be required to undergo a background check. We’ll provide details and cover any costs as part of your onboarding process.

VOLUNTEER!

Volunteering at TCGC means more than helping out — it means showing up for young artists, nurturing joy, and building community through creativity.

We’re always looking for kind, committed, and art-curious volunteers to support our programs, events, and behind-the-scenes magic. Whether you’re an artist, educator, student, or someone who simply believes in the power of young people, we have a space for you.

Our volunteer opportunities include:

  • Assisting in art or writing workshops

  • Supporting youth exhibitions and zine launches

  • Helping with setup, breakdown, and hospitality at community events

  • Organizing materials and prepping creative kits

  • Sharing professional skills in photography, design, archiving, and more

No formal experience is required — just curiosity, consistency, and care.

If you’re interested in volunteering with The Children’s Gallery Chicago, please fill out our volunteer form and someone from our team will be in contact with you shortly!

Student Internships

Art. Storytelling. Community. Equity.

If you’re an undergraduate student hungry for real-world experience in art education, arts access, children’s writing, or nonprofit leadership — we see you, and you belong here!

At The Children’s Gallery Chicago, we believe in paying students not just for their time, but for their passion. We know that meaningful professional experience needs to be fair, accessible, and resume-worthy. That’s why our paid internships offer flexible, part-time roles that honor your craft and support your priorities, academic and otherwise.

Available Part-Time Positions

  • Art Education Intern – Assist with program design and facilitation for both visual art and creative writing activities. Support Teaching Artists during workshops with youth.

  • Academic Support Intern –  Provide one-on-one and small group tutoring in reading, writing, math, and other subjects for youth in grades K–12. Great for future educators or anyone passionate about helping kids build confidence through learning.

Eligibility & Criteria

  • Currently enrolled undergraduate students (sophomore–senior).

  • Demonstrated interest in youth education, community arts, museum and galleries studies, creative writing, or nonprofit work.

  • Ability to commit 8–15 hours/week for a 10–12 week period.

  • MUST pass a background check for youth-facing roles and complete a brief orientation.

  • While some experience working with youth is helpful, it’s not required. What matters most is your energy, consistency, and willingness to learn alongside youth!

Interns are paid $18/hour for their time, energy, and contributions. We offer hourly wages that reflect current Chicago standards because access to professional opportunities should never depend on who can afford to work for free.

Applications for Spring 2026 internships will open in late December 2025. Register your interest today!
